6 TIPS FOR TAKING CARE OF YOU

January 25
by Mary Thaut

It's a New Year, a new YOU!

But, are you making time to take care of YOU?

As we are closing the month of January, how are those new year resolutions coming?  You know the one, the resolution of taking more time for yourself, more “me-time”, or maybe implementing a new self-care routine.

It’s so important to make sure you take care of YOU – your body, mind and soul every day – not just when you get sick. Eating right, reducing stress, exercising regularly, and taking “time-out” when you need it are touchstones of self-care that can help you stay healthy and resilient.

Practicing self-care can be difficult and finding ways to incorporate self-care into a daily routine without adding more stress into your life can be tough.  With crazy schedules, busy and stressful jobs, we are often too consumed with technology and find “me-time” last on the agenda.  Think about self-care as a way to check in with yourself and eliminate things that are no longer serving you purpose by making small changes that better your mind and soul. Look for ideas on how to care for yourself in 2020 without the unwanted added pressure of finding something that may be out of your element.

Take Care of Your Gut

The health of your gut can have a significant impact on your health, your well-being, and your feelings of vitality.  Types of foods you consume crucially impact bacteria living in your stomach, which can result in either positive or negative outcomes. An unhappy gut can lead to an unhappy you.

Practice Mindfulness

We often get through our day by going through the motions, on autopilot, but when was the last time you really took time to pay attention to your actions or surroundings?   So start practicing mindfulness in a way that benefits you by taking a current habit and spending that time focusing in on it and tuning out the other noises at that particular moment – activities like massaging a nourishing lotion into your skin at the beginning of your day, or maybe by giving yourself a food rub at the end of your day.

Unplug Yourself

Take a 5-minute, 10-minute break to “unplug” by turning off your electronics and giving yourself time away from the hustle and bustle and constant demand of notifications.  Make the most of this tech-free time and use it as an opportunity to give your body that extra bit of care – maybe with a gentle massage or stretching session, or by taking a few moments to journal your thoughts or ideas.

Alter Your Surroundings

Negativity is all around - the news, social media, and people encountered in our daily like. Negative energy is not good mentally or spiritually, and affects are health drastically.  One way to manage your surroundings of negativity is to alter things that are not servicing you in a positive manner.

Cleanse Your Mind

Every Spring, you de-clutter your home, tossing things out that you don’t need anymore, but when do you take time to cleanse your mind? Essential oils and their aromas are a wonderful tool for just about everything – from boosting your mood to soothing and relaxing the soul, so pick your favorite scent and diffuse, infuse daily to give yourself a little something extra to look forward to – pick your favorite and start cleansing.

Pamper Yourself

You deserve it, so go ahead – Pamper yourself. Whether it’s relaxing with a new book, taking a nice warm bath after a long day’s work – it’s fact that a pampering session goes a long way.   Treat yourself at home with that decadent bubble bath, a sugar scrub, a foot massage, or what your fancy desires.

It’s not too late to transform new habits and infuse more self-care into your daily routine.

Schedule your self-care time, and guard that time with everything you have. The more you can work that “me-time” into your schedule, the better you’ll grow, enjoy life, and thrive.

So how do you plan to thank your mind, body and soul for all it does?
